Regarding prop 63, I've had a lot of questions so here's the scoop.

Initiatives go into effect the day after they pass. Prop 63 had some delayed operative dates for various provisions.

Reporting lost/stolen guns takes effect July 2017.

Ammunition vendor regulation takes effect January 2018.

The ammunition background checks aren't required until January 2019.

The ban on large capacity magazines is July 2017.

Changes regarding National Instant Background Check System takes effect July 2017.

Theft of firearms provision undoing Prop 47 penalty decrease takes effect immediately.

Procedures for prohibited persons surrendering firearms take effect immediately.

Currently this is a pilot scale program, subject to change at any time without notice. It is a collaborative project of 3 different instructors plus our host facility. Please accept our sincere gratitude and an amazing discount in exchange for helping us fine tune the program with your participation and feedback,

By design this series is open to all skill levels including novices, yet it is not a "beginner's" class. Each individual drill or discussion is engineered such that veteran gun handlers and novices alike can train simultaneously at their respective skill levels. This class series is balanced at 50% education and 50% training. Our goal is to build capable, confident, and smart gun owners who have the necessary skills prevail in a fight to live, when that dark day comes.

Three modules will be taught using Simunition or UTM brand NLTA (Non Lethal Training Ammunition). This technology allows us to conduct live fire with real guns without hearing protection, armored backstops, or specialized ventilation. NLTA also reduces our exposure to airborne lead typical in live fire, and obviously is not deadly in the event of an unintentional shooting. Each of these three modules will have an additional ~$30 ammunition expense not included in the price of tuition.

Two of the modules will be conducted with a FATS, or Firearm Training Simulator. This is a very expensive and wonderful piece of technology that typically only well funded police departments and large military installations can afford. It allows for fully immersive and interactive scenarios that are filmed with live actors and depict realistic self defense situations. For this module, expect an expense of $12 for blank ammunition. The second FATS module will focus purely on marksmanship: Mastering perfect sight alignment and trigger control through instant feedback and repetition. There will be no additional fees for this module.

The two red cross first aid modules will have a total course consumables fee of at least $27. You will leave with a First Aid/CPR credential valid for 2 years, and benefit from additional hands on practice specific to treating hemorrhagic bleeding from typical knife or gun shot wounds. We recommend you purchase your own IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) once you are trained on the different components, and we will have some available for purchase.

In the two unarmed self-defense modules, we will each consume a few dollars worth of inert training spray, as well as one live canister of OC (Oleoresin capsicum) for the class, so plan on a $5 course fee.

If you have your own Glock 17 holster, you may train with it. If not, we will supply a set of gear for you. You will not need any personal firearms for this entire sequence of instruction. Certainly we do encourage you to purchase your own firearm to join us for live fire on the range, and to dry practice with at home.

What if I forget how many classes I've taken? We track attendance using a punch card, so don't worry.

Do I have to start on the "first" class? No, each module is self contained and you may jump into the series at any time, including taking modules out of sequence.

Will I need ear protection? No.

Will I need eye protection? For modules marked "NLTA", we will have loaner safety glasses for you to use, but you are welcome to bring your own. If you wear prescription lenses, that do not have very good coverage of your eye, you may opt to wear additional safety glasses over them.

What if I need to skip a module? Email Brian at at least a week ahead of time to arrange a make-up date. Class sizes are very limited, so overbooking a class with people who need to make up a module is a serious concern. No show = no refund/reschedule.

How often do you offer the class? 5 times per year in rotation, on every Wednesday evening, except for the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
